Brief Description of Project
This is development, build, own, operate and transfer a 50MW grid-tied solar power plant at Nkhoma in Lilongwe District in Malawi. All electricity generated is for sale to Electricity Supply Commission of Malawi (ESCOM) on a 20year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The solar power plant will have 20-30% battery storage.
Scope of work:
Development Stage
- Agreement with off-taker and Min of Energy
- Land Acquisition – 100 Hectares
- Environmental and Social Impact studies
- Feasibility study (including technology selection, yield calculations, financial models etc)
- Grid Impact study
- Power Purchase Agreement
- Project finance
EPC Stage
- Engineering Design, Equipment Selection, Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing, Project supervision
- Procurement – supply and delivery of solar panels, sun tracker mounting frames, inverters, lithium-ion batteries, transformers, cabling, civil infrastructure, remote monitoring equipment, balance of system equipment.
- Construction – civil (land clearing, road works, fence + security, site buildings, drainage, frame mounting) electrical connections (including sub-station connection), testing and commissioning, going live
Operation and Maintenance Stage
- System operation including remote monitoring
- Scheduled and breakdown maintenance (including solar panel cleaning, parts replacement etc)
Project budget – $60m
Beneficiaries
At least 43,000 households, commercial and industrial entities in Lilongwe and Dedza districts.
